Floripa Surf Film Festival 2025: The Largest Surf Film Festival in Brazil

Of March 20-22, 2025, Florianópolis will be the stage for second edition of Floripa Surf Film Festival, one of the most promising events on the international surf film scene. Created by the filmmakers Duda Saracura and Bruna Zanin, the festival aims to bring together the surfing community of Santa Catarina and filmmakers from different parts of the world to celebrate wave culture through cinema.

What is the history of the Floripa Surf Film Festival?

Inspired by Mimpi Festival, which between 2012 and 2018 was a milestone for the Brazilian surf and skate audiovisual scene, the Floripa Surf Film Festival was born with the proposal of providing a platform for filmmakers to display their productions on a large screen, that is, away from the limitations of cell phones and social networks.

In the first edition, held in 2024, the event was a success, attracting more than 1,200 spectators, even in heavy rain. This engagement reinforced the festival's relevance, which will now be strengthened in 2025 with an even more diverse program and a new location.

Where will the festival be held?

Currently for this edition, the festival moves into The Search House, a beachfront hostel in Barra da Lagoa, in Florianópolis. In other words, the space will be transformed into a open-air cinema, creating an immersive environment for surf and movie lovers.

Which films will be shown at the Floripa Surf Film Festival 2025?

The festival's program will feature 50 national and international films, highlighting productions that address different perspectives on surfing and its cultural impact. Among the main attractions are:

  • “Circles”, by Dana Shaw – A film that explores the connection between surfing and self-knowledge.
  • “Return to Zero”, by Amado Stachenfelt – A documentary that discusses the relationship between surfers and the environment.
  • “Provecho”, by Bruna Zanin and Jesse Mendes – Production filmed in Chile, addressing the evolution of surfing in Latin America.
  • “From Leme to Pontal”, by Bia Pinho – An artistic portrait of the longboarder Jasmin Avelino, filmed in 16mm in Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to these productions, the festival will feature exclusive premieres, as well as short films and documentaries that promise to move and inspire audiences.

Floripa Surf Film Festival and the World Surfing Circuit

The festival will take place simultaneously with WSL South American QS, a qualifying championship for the world's elite surfers. Therefore, this proximity to a major sporting event reinforces the connection between cinema and professional surfing, expanding the festival's reach and attracting athletes and sports enthusiasts.

In addition, the event has the support of the brand Layback, founded by the skateboarder Pedro Barros, which has been a fundamental part of strengthening surf and skate culture in Brazil.
